| Abstract: |
The study sets out to explore radio messages towards women
mobilisation and participation in politics in Abuja, Nigeria. The
study utilised the agenda setting and social responsibility theories. It
collected data from 300 respondents through the use of the survey
research design and availability sampling method. Findings
revealed among others that the women had high exposure to women
political programmes on radio. Data further showed that the
programmes highly influenced the women to always come out and
participate in political activities. It was concluded that radio was
important in educating and encouraging women to get involved in
politics. The researcher recommended among others that media
should continue to feature women in its programmes as this makes
lead to actualisation of goal five (gender equality) of the Sustainable
Deve lopment Goa ls (SDGs) of the Unit ed Na tions. |
